Georgie addressed the American people on Tuesday night regarding Iraq. As expected, it was the usual “we are not backing down” and “we are not giving in to terrorism” shwag. We know. I think they know too. That is the problem. The fact that they know that we will not give in yet they continue to attack us is what scares me. They know they can’t win. They also know that we can’t win.

I don’t think we can ever overcome the hatred that brings these acts of terrorism upon us. He says that the Iraq situation is not a quagmire. Fat chance buddy. Here is the speech in it’s entirety – from a Pakistani news source for good measure.

When they ask you if something happened while under oath that you cannot admit to, give them the ol’ “Well, I don’t remember.” Always works like a charm. At least when Reagan did it was believable. Now Condi Rice has joined the elite squad of memory challenged politicians.

Rice said that she could not remember if she discussed with Georgie security concerns about Al Qaeda cells in the US prior to the September 11th tragedy. I just wish they would admit they screwed up. They weigh the value of information everyday. Sometimes you are just going to support the wrong people and skip over the right ones. Some of us know you are only human. Except for Rumsfeld – he is definitely a Terminator.

“Cleric” Muqtada al-Sadr and his merry band of followers have taken control of the organized grouping of mud huts known as Najaf.

The top U.S. civilian administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, said “He believes that in the new Iraq, like in the old Iraq, power should (go) to the guy with guns,” Bremer said. “That is an unacceptable vision for Iraq.” He may or may not have added, “Plus, everybody knows who really has the most guns.”

Oscar Pilamunga, a chef in Manhattan was sentenced today for the 2003 slaying of his wife, Beatrice Yually. Big deal you say. Chefs in NYC kill people all the time. Well my friend this case is unique for two reasons.

For one, the wife was only 22, but she had been married to him for 9 years. You do the math. For two, he sawed off her head, put the body in a suitcase and dumped it on the street. That’ll teach her!

Pad your budget much?

NASA announced today that necessary updates to the Space Shuttle program could cost up to $700 million.

They do say this includes the costs of establishing an “independent” commission to perform the safety testing, but still, $700,000,000? Couldn’t we just scrap the entire project and start over from scratch?

I better see some 20″ spinners, leather interior, and inter-galactic GPS for that kind of money.
